How to play PuckIt
PuckIt takes a minute to pick up: skate into the puck to carry it, pass it around, and wind up a shot to beat the goalie. Here's everything in one place.

Shooting
- Hold to wind up. The longer you hold Space, the harder the shot. A quick tap rarely beats a goalie.
- Aim as you release. Hold a direction as you shoot to pick high, low or the corners.
- One-timers. When a teammate passes to you, a ONE-TIMER marker appears: shoot as the puck arrives and it's gone before the goalie can set.
How scoring works
A goalie stops what they can reach: their body down low, a wider glove up high, or a wide pad spread along the ice in the butterfly. Most shots they reach get stopped, but about 1 in 12 squeak through anyway. Your odds go up when you:
- Get over the blue line. A shot from centre ice or your own end never squeaks in, however hard it is. From the blue line in, it can.
- Shoot hard. A quick tap a set goalie reaches is always caught; a full wind-up is the likeliest to squeak in.
- Aim off the body. The edge of the goalie's reach beats the chest by more than three to one, and the corners are past it entirely.
- Read the stance. Go low (five-hole) on a goalie standing up, high on one down in the butterfly.
- Move the goalie. A goalie sliding across to follow a pass is nearly twice as easy to beat.
- Follow your shot. For about a second and a half after a save the goalie isn't set: rebounds pop out more and even a quick tap can go in.
Passing and hitting
- Pass early. Goalies stop most shots from players who skate in alone; a cross-ice pass is the best chance you'll get.
- Skate hard into the puck carrier to knock the puck loose. Turbo makes the hit bigger and gets you back on defence.
Goalie
Play goalie from the draft. Stay square to the shooter and don't get caught sliding: a set goalie is the hardest to beat, and the corners are where goals come from.
Tips
- New? The short tutorial from the front page teaches carrying, shooting and passing in a couple of minutes.
- Practice against Rookie bots first, then work up to Regular and Pro.
Questions
How do I shoot harder in PuckIt?
Hold Space longer before releasing. The shot gets harder the longer you wind up.
Why did a shot go through the goalie?
Goalies stop most of the shots they reach, but not all. Hard shots, shots near the edge of their reach, low shots on a standing goalie and quick follow-ups after a save sometimes squeak through.
How do I do a one-timer?
Have a teammate pass to you and press shoot as the puck arrives. A ONE-TIMER marker shows when it's on.
Does PuckIt work with a controller?
Yes. A shoots, B is Turbo and X passes, and the buttons can be remapped in Settings.
